Little girl pulled from Northern Rivers backyard pool dies in hospital

A two-year-old girl pulled unresponsive from a backyard pool in the NSW Northern Rivers has died.

Emergency services were called to a property at Whian Whian, 25km north of Lismore, about 2.20pm on Wednesday.

Family members had given the toddler CPR as they waited for emergency services to arrive.

“Police arrived on scene and rendered assistance until NSW Ambulance paramedics took over,” police said.

The little girl was taken to Lismore Base Hospital, but was unable to be revived.

There have been five drownings in NSW since Christmas Day.

Royal Life Saving Society CEO Justin Scarr said earlier this week that the week between Christmas and New Year was the deadliest for drownings during the year.
