“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home,” the family said in a statement to US People magazine.

“We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”

On Monday, entertainment reporter Peter Ford spoke about the death of the entertainer.

“A remarkable career and a very distinct career as both an actor, singer, and songwriter,” Ford said.

“I guess as an actor, most people would think of A Star Is Born opposite Barbra Streisand.

About 10 years ago, Kristofferson believed he had Alzheimer’s disease due to him forgetting his lyrics, only to realise he had Lyme disease and was treated for that condition.

“They got him off the Alzheimer’s medication, started treating him for Lyme disease. And literally within a couple of months he was back in good form. He was back on top and knew all the lyrics.”
