In a statement to 7NEWS.com.au, a Kmart spokesperson said the company has offered Stanhope Gardens staff roles at other nearby stores (see full response below).

It’s believed the store has been closed down to make way for a new BIG W, which will open in the coming months.

Many locals have taken to social media to voice their disappointment over the news, with many stating that the store was always popular with many.

Kmart responds

A Kmart spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au that locals will be able to shop at several nearby stores.

“We can confirm that Kmart Stanhope Gardens will close on 25 January 2024, and we want to thank the Stanhope Gardens community for their continued support over many years,” the spokesperson said.

“Supporting our team and customers has remained our biggest priority throughout this process, and all team members who wished to be redeployed have been offered like-for-like roles.

“We will continue supporting our customers through nearby Kmart stores at Rouse Hill, Blacktown and Castle Hill.”
