Meghan Markle’s expected foray into the jam business has inadvertently led to a boost in sales for King Charles’ version of the spread.

This week, 50 of the Duchess of Sussex’s closest friends and influencers, including actresses Mindy Kaling and Tracee Ellis Ross, fashion designer Tracy Robbins, and Argentine socialite Delfina Balquier, received sample packages of the jelly to drum up interest on social media for her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which soft-launched in March.

Each jar, hand-numbered 1 to 50, soon hit social media sites like Instagram and X as the celebs gushed over the forthcoming fruit spread.

However, that sparked such a buying spree for the King’s own spread, Highgrove Organic Strawberry Preserve, sold through his Highgrove Gardens shop, that it immediately was out of stock online.

According to Britain’s Independent, the intense interest in Charles’ organic jam was due to a prankster setting up a similar domain name to Meghan’s new brand, which redirected to his fruit spread.

One royal commentator also claimed fans of King Charles rushed to buy his jam in a show of support, and also called Meghan’s new spread a “publicity stunt.”

“Profits are donated to royal charities,” the Daily Mail‘s Richard Eden added. “Meghan’s profits will go to herself.”

But a person speaking for Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, has shot back at critics, pointing out the King’s jam is not made onsite but brought in from elsewhere.

“All the fruit came from Harry and Meghan’s home garden in Montecito,” the source told The Daily Mail.

As of now, it is unknown when Meghan will begin selling the jams as they are not officially available yet. Other products the lifestyle brand will reportedly offer include recipe books, tableware, textiles and marmalades.
