Jordan Mailata joins $100m club after signing contract extension with Philadelphia Eagles

Australian NFL superstar Jordan Mailata has signed a new contract worth over $100m.

Mailata put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, which reportedly included a $30m signing bonus and keeps him at the club until 2028.

The new contract makes the 203cm man-mountain the fourth-highest paid offensive tackle in the NFL behind Laremy Tunsil, Trent Williams and Andrew Thomas.

Born in Bankstown in Sydney’s south west, Mailata grew up playing rugby league and played juniors for the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs.

Despite never playing American football, he was invited to join the NFL’s international player pathway (IPP) due to his considerable size.

He was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft, but didn’t make his first start until the 2020 season.

He has since emerged as one of the best offensive tackles in the game, racking up 62 matches (starting 57), including the 2023 Super Bowl where his Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 27-year-old is now among the highest-paid Australian athletes, alongside golf superstar Cam Smith and basketballer Ben Simmons.

Simmons will earn $58m with the Brooklyn Nets despite continuing to struggle with injuries, while Smith raked in an estimated $75m last year.
