‘I’m a consultant psychiatrist – here are five ways to reduce your dementia risk’

Dementia is not a direct result of ageing which means there are ways to modify your risk.

A healthy diet is one of the greatest weapons you can add to your arsenal of protection, but there are other lifestyle changes that also play a huge role.

Dr Jaleel Mohammed, Consultant Psychiatrist, took to his TikTok to outline things to reduce your risk of the mind-robbing condition that are not diet-related.

Speaking in the video, he said: “There are a number of things that people do and don’t do that increase their risk of dementia.

“So, here’s five things you can do to reduce your risk.”

1. Pursue education

The doctor warned that a low level of education is one of “the biggest modifiable risk factors” for dementia.

“It’s really important that you continue to study and educate yourself throughout your life,” he said.

2. Stop smoking

While dementia might not be the first health problem you associate with smoking, the harmful habit is bad for your overall health.
