The automotive market in the U.S. gets bigger and more diverse every year. Over 40 auto nameplates sell nearly 300 different models in the U.S. in segments ranging from compact crossovers to ultra luxury and supercars. You can have any kind of car you want if you have the money.
Imagine though if all that choice was taken away in one fell swoop. Or you never had the choice to begin with? What if, when you went to go purchase a car, you can only choose one automaker and a single model? And that was the only car you could drive for the rest of your life?
Me? I’d choose something fun yet still a bit versatile because you don’t know what life could throw at you. While I could choose one of my favorites like the Lexus LC or Genesis G90, honestly, I’d chose the VW Golf R. It’s a hatch so it has that cargo carrying versatility. It’s fantastic to drive so I’d never get bored. It’s also not that big, pretty decent on gas and easy to get into for when I get old. I’d just keep my fingers crossed that I wouldn’t have any major reliability issues to deal with.
Now we ask you, Jalopnik reader. What car would you choose if you could only drive one vehicle for the rest of your life? Think carefully about this one and let us know in the comments.
