J.K. Rowling has sparked outrage once again on social media with a post marking Mother’s Day in Britain.

“Happy Birthing Parent Day to all whose large gametes were fertilized, resulting in small humans whose sex was assigned by doctors making mostly lucky guesses,” the Harry Potter author posted on X on Sunday.

The sarcastic comment came days after Rowling was reported to police over accusations of “misgendering” transgender news anchor India Willoughby.
Many commenters lambasted the best-selling author for her divisive post.
“Of all the ways Rowling could have used her star status to make a difference in the world, she chose to pick on a miniscule per cent of an already very demonized group of people,” broadcaster Narinder Kaur replied. “So sad.”
Ian Timbrell, a trainer on LGBT inclusion, wrote, “It breaks my heart to see how she is descending into trolling and unnecessary attacks.”
Rowling, however, was unmoved by the reaction and wrote in a follow-up post: “Devastated and bewildered that my embrace of inclusive language has angered its most enthusiastic devotees, so let’s just say: Happy Mother’s Day to all females who’ve raised children.”

Last week, Rowling and Willoughby continued their years-long rivalry after the former presenter accused the author of calling her a man in a series of social media posts.
“India didn’t become a woman. India is cosplaying a misogynistic male fantasy of what a woman is,” Rowling wrote in a thread discussing whether trans women should be allowed in women’s change rooms.

Willoughby claimed Rowling had “definitely committed a crime” under the 2010 Equality Act, but the author noted there was no law that compelled her to refer to Willoughby as female.
Willoughby filed a report with police, but officers said over the weekend that the complaint had been thrown out, the Daily Mail reported.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson told the newspaper: “While we recognize the upset this may have caused, the post was reviewed and did not meet the criminal threshold.”
