“Police will be in the area of Pier 4 canvassing throughout the day,” public information officer Indy Bharaj said in a news release. “We continue to collect video in attempts to identify any suspect vehicles or persons of interest.”

Homicide unit Det-Sgt. Sarah Beck told reporters during a Wednesday news conference that Gallant’s body was found by a woman walking her dog at the north end of the park by the water’s edge, according to the CBC.

The woman called 911 and attempted to revive Gallant, the CBC reported, but Beck said he was later pronounced dead and the death is considered “suspicious” due to his injuries.

Beck told reporters they are not sure why Gallant was at the park and the neighbouring Leander Boat Club at the time, but believe the incident happened overnight.

“We have information there were residents in the park and utilizing the space right up until the death,” Beck said, according to the CBC.
