For an extra fee, Ford is allowing Mustang GTD buyers to claim a color as for their supercar alone, keeping all other rich people copying their precious high-powered ‘Stang.

In addition to the six standard colors, thousands of possible hues are available at extra cost through the optional Extended Color Palette. Customers can pay even more for the Exclusive Extended Color Palette Lock-Out Option, where Ford will not allow any other buyer to choose the same color. The manufacturer hasn’t stated precisely how much the option will cost, but if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.

Considering that the Mustang GTD starts at $325,000, potential customers like have a few extra bucks to spend on the privilege. Future owners had to apply to even get to the point of handing that much money over for the pony car’s most extreme variant. Over 7,500 people applied for the opportunity by late May. I hope Ford calculated enough colors just in case everyone wants their color choice to be exclusive. The automaker’s concierge team will work with option buyers to make sure they don’t have any second thoughts before they lock in their color.

With all of these bespoke options, the Ford Mustang GTD might as well be considered a hypercar. The 800-horsepower Multimatic-developed machine has an optional Performance Package with plenty of features commonplace in modern racing cars. This track-focused package includes magnesium wheels and Formula 1-inspired active aerodynamics. Ford aims to offer a Mustang capable of lapping the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. The Mustang GTD will be attacking the hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend in the unique shade of Indulgent Blue.
