Ford’s Plant Dilemma
Having retained its Chennai factory despite earlier plans to sell, Ford has a strategic advantage for restarting operations. The regulatory clearances for the potential sale of the plant had been secured, making it easier for Ford to resume manufacturing. The retooling process to produce the new Endeavour would also be relatively straightforward since the previous Endeavour shared some underpinnings with the latest model.
The new Ford Endeavour, built on the Ranger pickup’s platform, boasts of a sturdy ladder-frame architecture. Its exterior showcases a boxier front end with a prominent grille, Matrix LED headlights, and a squared-off design. Inside, the three-row cabin boasts a modern dashboard with a 12-inch touchscreen, SYNC infotainment software, and advanced safety features.
Safety is a priority in the new Endeavour, equipped with nine airbags, hands-free parking, adaptive cruise control, and Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist with Intersection Assist. The vehicle is designed to apply brakes in the event of an imminent collision, enhancing overall safety on the road.
Engine options include two 2.0-litre turbo-diesel variants and a new 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel, aligning with the powertrain offerings of the latest Ranger. The transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic, catering to diverse preferences in different markets. Some variants also offer a 2WD setup for added flexibility.
