Elderly man injured as car rolls onto its side down embankment at Mosman on Sydney’s North Shore

An elderly man has been taken to hospital with injuries sustained when his vehicle rolled down an embankment and flipped onto its side on Sydney’s North Shore.

The man, aged in his 80s, became trapped inside his vehicle when it came to rest against a tree off Corontation Ave in Mosman about 7am on Friday.

His vehicle had left the road, mounted a footpath, crashed through a fence and rolled down a steep decline where it eventually came to a stop on its side.

The rescue required dozens of people — including specialist rescue personnel — to carry out the delicate operation.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Fire and Rescue NSW are now working to retrieve the car, and are likely to have to call in a crane to complete the job.

Investigations into the accident are continuing.
