He is 48 years old and was “standing outside the gates in front of the home,” according to Toronto Police, when he was struck by gunshots at 2:09 a.m., suffering life-threatening injuries.

Police on Tuesday afternoon confirmed it was a drive-by shooting.

One of the wounds was to the upper chest. The victim was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital by ambulance via an emergency run and remains in hospital.

Toronto Police Insp. Paul Krawczyk, of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force, said the victim is in “serious condition.”

It’s still unclear if Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, was home, though a source says he has been in Toronto in recent days. Toronto Police would not confirm if the rapper was home at the time but said they are in contact with his team who are cooperating with the investigation.

Discussions to allow people inside the $100-million home with its own basketball court to be interviewed by police have been taking place, a source said.

While there is no known motive for this shooting, it does come amid an ongoing rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Krawczyk said police are aware of the rap beef but he would not comment on a motive for the shooting, saying it was too early in the investigation.

Krawczyk said a vehicle was involved and fled the scene but no descriptions were provided despite police having video that captured the incident. Krawczyk said investigators are “dealing with video quality issues.”

It’s also not the first violent call for police at the home or the first time Drake has been in the vicinity of a shooting.

On March 30, 2021, a woman allegedly armed with a knife was arrested after allegedly assaulting a security guard outside the mansion.

In 2015, a shooting at the Muzik Nightclub on the CNE grounds during the Drake afterparty following his OVO concert saw Duvel Hibbert, 23, and Ariela Navarro-Fenoy, 26, murdered.

Drake was not injured.

Jaiden Jackson, 28, was shot to death at Drake’s Pick 6ix club on Wellington St. on May 20, 2018.

This time, police, who have closed the whole street, are trying to determine a motive for this shooting or an intended victim.
