Park a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series in front of your local Costco, and there’s a good chance absolutely no one would give it a second look. At least until they heard the exhaust. To those who know, though, it’s one of the most desirable and special AMGs from the 2000s. They’re also incredibly rare, with fewer than 700 estimated to have ever been built. And now, you have the chance to buy one over on Cars & Bids.
The star of the show is a 6.2-liter V8 that was rated at 500 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Although, you could also argue the exhaust is the real star because these things are loud, and they sound incredible. Sadly, power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic that’s probably frustratingly slow by modern standards, but something tells us with all that power underfoot, you can find a way to forgive it. At a time when you can get a 600-hp Hyundai, 500 hp might not sound like all that much power, but remember, this thing was built at a time when the Mustang GT only made 300 hp.
The Black Series was more than a CLK63 AMG with a great exhaust and a little extra power, too. The suspension changes make it much closer to a street-legal race car than a sporty road car, and the ride is notoriously harsh. That’s just the price you pay for incredibly sharp, agile handling. Mercedes also added a lot of carbon fiber and some truly iconic fender flares.
Even better, this isn’t some showpiece that’s been kept in a climate-controlled storage unit. With 54,000 miles on the odometer, this thing has been driven. Which means you don’t have to worry about how much every mile you drive is going to cost you if you ever sell it. It’s already got to be one of the highest-mile examples, so you’re free to drive it as much as your back can tolerate.
So do it. You know you want to. It’ll probably be pretty expensive, but what even is money? A number on a screen? I guarantee you that you’ll have more fun if you buy this than you will from looking at how big the number is on your screen. After all, it’s a freakin’ CLK63 AMG Black Series.
