Tesla’s Cybertruck is not only a scourge on society with its awful looks and poor truck performance, it’s also out for blood. After the truck was found to be slicing legs with its super sharp edges, a Cybertruck passenger has now been left in need of emergency care after slashing their hand while trying to open the door.
The driver of a 2024 Cybertruck took to an owners forum this week to recount a tale that left their father-in-law in need of stitches after an altercation with the passenger door of the truck, reports the Drive. According to the owner, their father-in-law was searching for the release button for the front door when the rear passenger door was closed on their hand, leaving them in need of “seven stitches,” as the site reports:
The accident prompted a trip to the emergency room, and required “only seven stitches and a splint” for the unfortunate father-in-law whose index finger was crushed in the door seam. Even though the accident could largely be seen as a result of user error, the danger is such that Tesla specifically warns against it in the Cybertruck’s user manual, reminding owners to beware of distractions and miscommunication between front and rear passengers that may lead to bodily harm.
In the “Doors” section of the Cybertruck owner’s manual, a warning from Tesla reads, “Keep hands and fingers away from the opening edge and supervise children if they open and close the doors. This is especially important when handling a front door where the opening edge can cause injury when opening or closing the associated rear door. Neglecting to follow the correct opening procedure for front and rear doors can lead to injury.”
The incident was described as a “traumatic experience for us all,” by the Cybertruck owner, who goes by the name SpykeDaddy on the Cybertruck Owners Club, reports CarScoops. SpykeDaddy even feared that their father-in-law could have lost his finger as a result of the mishap.
However, this doesn’t seem to be enough to put the owner off their Tesla truck, as they continued in their post saying that they “absolutely love the truck.”
Clearly the Cybertruck’s controversial angular design has a few usability issues that could come back to bite Tesla. First, there were issues with the front trunk on the massive truck, which various influencers found could close tightly on any wayward fingers or other limbs. After that, a Cybertruck owner was left with a nasty slice on their leg after catching it on the corner of the door while climbing in.
