Costco recalls several products nationwide over choking hazard

Members-only retail chain Costco has issued a nationwide recall over a choking hazard in several products, including alcohol.

The products include Outerspace Vodka 700ml, Christmas Globe Gin Liqueur Spiced Orange and Cranberry 700ml, SnowGlobe Gin Liqueur Orange & Gingerbread 700ml and the Light-up Gin Liqueur Baubles twin pack.

The recall is Australia-wide and “affects all date codes”.

The issue centres on the products failing to include a warning about a battery contained in them that could be “hazardous” and needs to be “kept away from children”.

“There is a risk of choking or serious injury if young children gain access to the button or coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body,” the warning reads.

“Consumers may be unaware that the product contains button or coin batteries.”

Customers are entitled to a refund and have been told to show the recall notice during their next visit.

“If you have purchased this item on behalf of someone else or, alternatively, as a gift, please ensure you forward this important correspondence to them.”
