“Police have confirmed to 7NEWS that witnesses informed them a car matching the description of his was seen in the area swerving and cutting off other cars before 6am on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway,” Cleary reported.

Maynard had spent the weekend down at the beach with friends.

The club confirmed no one was hurt in the incident in a statement to 7NEWS.

“Collingwood confirms Brayden Maynard was involved in a very minor car accident earlier this morning,” the statement said.

“Importantly, no one was hurt. Brayden exchanged contact details with the other driver with only minor damage to the exterior of Brayden’s vehicle.”

Maynard has played 186 games at Collingwood since being drafted to the club in 2014.

He was appointed to the leadership group ahead of the 2023 season and played a key role in the Magpies’ premiership.

Maynard was at the centre of a controversial incident in the qualifying final against Melbourne when he clattered into Angus Brayshaw that left the star Demon with a concussion.

He was ultimately cleared by the AFL Tribunal after a lengthy process that divided the football world.

The AFL are set to rubber stamp a rule change that will demand players who leave the ground to smother to show a greater duty of care and reduce their impact when making contact.
