Celebrity father-son duo share ‘unrecognisable’ throwback photo. Can you guess who it is?

They’re hugely recognisable these days for their roles in a beloved TV show, but can you tell who they are from this photo?

The father-son duo recently took to Instagram to share a throwback picture of their younger days.

The pair co-created and starred in an Emmy Award winning sitcom that ran for six seasons from 2015 to 2020.

Still struggling to work it out?

We’ll give you one more clue: The show aired on Netflix and also starred Annie Murphy, Catherine O’Hara, Emily Hampshire and Chris Elliott.

That’s right, it’s Canadian father and son, Eugene and Daniel Levy, of Schitt’s Creek fame.

The striking similarity between father and son in their adult years is slightly less evident in this throwback photo.

But whenever the duo poses on the red carpet these days, there’s no doubting they are father and son.

They have the same thick eyebrows, wear thick-framed glasses and even sport similar hairstyles.

Their massively popular TV comedy followed Eugene’s character Johnny Rose, who has to rebuild his family’s life in a nowhere town called, of course, Schitt’s Creek.

Daniel played his TV son David, with Catherine O’Hara Johnny’s wife, Moira, and Annie Murphy playing their daughter, Alexis.

The show cleaned up at the 2020 Emmys, winning seven awards after gaining a whole new viewership during COVID lockdowns.

But its sixth season would be its last.

Actor and comedian Eugene Levy was already a well and truly established name in Hollywood before Schitt’s Creek, having starred in films such as American Pie, Best In Show, Cheaper By The Dozen and Waiting for Guffman.

Daniel has often addressed accusations that he is a “nepo baby”, that is, gaining entry into Hollywood because his father was already famous.

When he began working at MTV Live in the early days of his own career, he kept a distance from his famous father, waiting until he had become established in his own right before approaching his dad about co-creating Schitt’s Creek.

“I never went to my Dad for anything,” he recently told an audience at a film screening in New York.

“I think there was a part of him that always wondered why I never came to him.

“You know the culture, you know how easy it is to judge people who have grown up in the industry.”

He added that the MTV producers didn’t know who his father was when he auditioned — because he didn’t tell them.

“It was only after that, when I had done the work, came up with the idea for Schitt’s Creek, that I knew I had what it took to carry my weight,” he said.

“When you’re in those situations, you almost have to do triple the work, justifiably so, to get to a place where you can go, as I did, to my dad and ask him to work for me.”

Since the end of Schitt’s Creek, Daniel Levy has gone on to produce and direct a film called Good Grief, while his father is doing voice work for animated TV series Human Resources.
