Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Camden Toy dead at 68

US actor Camden Toy has died aged 68 following a two-year fight with pancreatic cancer.

Best known for bringing to life one of the most well-known monsters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Toy’s death was announced by friends in a Facebook tribute.

Toy’s partner Bethany Henderson wrote on a Remembering Camden Toy page that he had been suffering from cancer since February 2022 after “months of mysterious pain”.

“For many reasons, we were very hopeful for, at least, a longer and more fruitful time on planet Earth,” she wrote on December 8.

“Even the more recent challenges felt more like a hiccup in progress. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ve reached the end of the road with the doctor’s treatments.

“His condition has declined a lot in the last two months and tremendously in the last several days. He chose, for many reasons, not to announce his illness publicly, and so, unfortunately, this may be new and shocking news to many of his fans.”

“We both apologise for this and please know that he has appreciated you all so much, as have I! Unfortunately, he can’t communicate at this time, so I will be answering any calls or texts as I’m able.

“Thanks to all of our family and friends who have been supportive along the way! Thank you!”

Toy is believed to have died in his California home on Monday, December 11, according to friends’ tributes on his Facebook page.

Toy played The Gentleman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the season four episode Hush in 1999.

He went on to appear in five episodes across the show’s seventh season playing Gnarl and then Ubervamp.

Toy was also cast in Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off.

Other credits included The Insider’s Guide to Film School, The Bay, Average Joe and a voice role on Call of Duty: Vanguard.
