For the past two months, my husband and I have been trialling the Eight Sleep Pod Mattress Cover.

And while it’s pricey at $3,745, I now safely know that I never want to go back to a regular mattress again.

What is the Eight Sleep Pod Cover?

The Eight Sleep Pod Cover sits atop your existing mattress and works to improve your sleep with dynamic heating and cooling — providing personalised data and insights every morning.

Proven to increase deep sleep by 34 per cent, you can adjust different settings for each side of the bed so you and your partner can make the most of it.

You can elect to set your own preferred temperture manually via the app, or have the temperature change automatically throughout the night based on your sleep phases.

How does the Eight Sleep Pod Cover work?

While the device is pricey at $3,745, what it offers is unrivalled in the sleep market.

The Pod Cover utilises advanced technology to adjust the bed temperature, ensuring a comfortable sleep environment.

It works by pumping water through a network of coils that are embedded in the mattress cover.

The water is heated or cooled by a small radiator in the Hub.

With built-in sensors, it monitors sleep patterns, providing valuable insights into sleep quality and duration.

It also seamlessly integrates with other tech in you home, allowing you you to control and customise your sleep environment effortlessly.

Plus, you can have dual-climate control, so if you’re a cool sleeper and your partner runs hot, you can quickly and easily make individual preferences.

Was it easy to set up?

While I mainly outsourced the installation of the Eight Sleep Pod Cover to my husband, he/we found it relatively easy.

You will need lift your heavy mattress in order to store it on top of it, and you’ll also need water on hand.

Once we had set it up, we found we had to wait several hours for the Cover to install itself and cool to our required (very cool) bedroom temperatures.

Then, we were ready for our first night.

How did I find it?

From the first night, I was immediately sold on the Eight Sleep Pod Cover.

It being so hot and humid in Sydney right now, both my husband and I have found we have regularly been setting the Pod Cover to -6 in terms of temperature.

The Pod Cover then stays at that temperature while you fall asleep, before gradually warming up through the night so it’s warmer by the time you wake in the morning.

After two months of using the Pod Cover every night, I would say it has significantly improved both the quality and quantity of my sleep.

Not only do I fall asleep more quickly (often in about 10 minutes these days), but I am far less likely to wake up too cold or too hot.

My sceptical husband is similarly converted.

We’re excited to try the Pod Cover in the winter months, when our house typically gets freezing and getting into bed is something we delay in order to stay cosy by the heater downstairs.

I also love that the app is easy-to-use and user-friendly, providing me with personalised data on a daily basis that I can pore over and analyse.

Other great features include a vibration alarm, which wakes you up slowly, and which I set from Monday to Friday in order to wake me up for work.

The only negative to point out is the price point.

At $3,745, the Pod Cover is a major investment — but I think it’s one I would solidly recommend.

If you prize your sleep and loving getting a good night’s shut-eye, then this is the gadget for you.

It’s also a great gift for anyone in your life — as while they might not think they need it, they will soon find they can’t live without it.
