Best lip scrub for dry skin: Skincare brand behind cult favourites launches new lip rescue ointment

When it comes to dry skin, our lips bear the brunt of the damage, whether it’s winter or summer.

The reason is simple.

Research shows our lips dry out 10 times faster than the rest of our skin, because the skin on them is thinner, it has a weaker barrier function and an inability to retain moisture.

And while you might be good at applying lip balms and treatments during the winter, in fact, you need to prioritise the condition of your lips all year round.

Enter: fresh skincare’s new Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Ointment ($42).

Selling for $42 at Sephora, the rich ointment is a protective treatment that has been put through clinical tests to show how well it is able to repair dry, flaky lips, relieve discomfort and restore smoothness and freshness.

It does this via a plethora of super-charged ingredients, such as sugar for long-lasting hydration, conditioning and softening, squalane, jojoba oil and castor oil to mimic the elements of the skin’s natural lipid barrier, and ceramides to strengthen your skin’s barrier.

The impressive little ointment also has upcycled grapeseed oil, which fresh says will help to “smooth, soften and maintain hydration” on your lips.

I’ve been trialling this miracle balm for around a month now, and have seen a noticeable difference in my lips.

They are now soft and supple despite regular swimming and being outdoors in the sunshine.

I also love the fact the balm is multi-purpose and can be used in other dry areas of the skin, whether that’s damaged cuticles, flakiness on elbows and knees, or rough or dry patches.

fresh says the ointment offers 72 hours of hydration — with 98 per cent of users who tried it feeling relieved of discomfort from dryness after just one application.

While the product is new, there are a few reviews already on the Sephora website.

I jumped for this right away when I saw it come online, since I am a big fan of the OG Sugar advanced therapy balm,” one shopper wrote.

This is very similar and you get WAY more product for the same price. However, I wish the applicator was better like other lip balms. It doesn’t have the original scent and def smells more like an ointment as you’d expect.”

Another added: “This is a true, non-shiny lip balm.

“It doesn’t have a shine and feels like a true lip balm that’s usually in a stick form. Good when I don’t feel like a glossy lip and great for prepping my lips when starting my skincare and makeup routine.”

fresh’s sugar range already boasts a host of cult-loved products, designed to exfoliate, refine and polish your skin and lips.
