Mould can be so invasive and such a pain to deal with.

However, Aussie professional organiser Anita Birges has revealed five ways to remove mould from around your home — and the $14.95 cleaning product from Bunnings she swears by.

For clothing and furniture, whether it’s leather or canvas, there are three steps she suggests for banishing the rampant black fungus for good: clean, prevent and protect.

Firstly, it’s about cleaning the items.

“Brush away any mould spores outside, mix equal parts isopropyl and water in a spray bottle,” Anita said.

“Next, spray the solution all over and clean with a microfibre cloth.”

Once it is cleaned, Birges emphasises that it is important to prevent and protect your items from mould returning.

Her go-to mould preventative spray is 10 drops of clove oil, 10 drops of tea tree oil and 100mL of white vinegar.

“Give it a good shake and it’s ready to go,” she said.

If you find mould on soft toys, she suggests placing them into a pillowcase, then popping it all into the washing machine.

“Add a few drops of tea tree oil and wash on a delicate cycle, then place them into the sun to dry, to then throw into the dryer on medium heat,” she said.

For plastic toys, the cleaning expert advises putting the toys in the top rack of your dishwasher.

Then spray them with the preventative antibacterial spray and put the dishwasher on a normal wash cycle at 45C.

If you need to remove mould from your walls, Anita raves about the 30 Seconds Mould Off spray from Bunnings.

“Spray it on your wall for 30 seconds as it’s the best for walls,” she said.

“I always recommend laying down an old towel onto the floor where the wall meets it. This spray contains bleaching agents, so you need to be extra careful.”

Anita also warned people to “always wear gloves and make sure you leave a window open so the air can ventilate, when cleaning your walls”.

Lastly, if you have mouldy books or photo albums, Anita says to vacuum the pages to remove mould spores and make up a solution of one tablespoon of peroxide and a cup of water.

“Then gently clean your books and photo albums with a paper towel.”

The mould spray from Bunnings has received more than 100 rave reviews online.

“Bought it thinking it was a gimmick but… Holy mould nuggets it works. Don’t be fooled into thinking there is no wiping, but it really is just wiping. The mould will disappear right before your eyes,” one said.

Another suggested: “This has to be the best spray for mould! I sprayed my lounge room ceiling, left it for like 30 seconds then wiped it off. My ceiling look like they have been freshly painted! Looks amazing. Worth every cent!”

One added: “I bought this to clean a very big mould problem in a bedroom. I have tried other mould cleaners before but this blew me away. The best part is that it gets rid of the stains as well as the mould. It does exactly what it said it will do. Best mould spray ever!”
