Argos shoppers rush to buy PlayStation device that just became an essential purchase | Gaming | Entertainment

If you’ve been thinking about buying a PlayStation VR 2 headset but have never been able to afford one, then you might want to pay a visit to Argos. The UK retailer is currently selling the PSVR 2 headset with controllers for just £439.99, which is a saving of almost £100. It’s the same price Sony is selling the device for as part of its Days of Play event, only with Argos you can pick it up instantly and start playing today. Compatible with the PS5, the next-generation virtual reality device comes with all the cables you need, plus two of Sony’s superb new Sense controllers. The successor to the popular PlayStation VR headset is a massive step up from the original, providing clearer visuals, eye-tracking, 3D Audio and headset (plus controller) haptics. While the library isn’t as extensive as the original PSVR, games like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Horizon Call of the Mountain are worth the price of admission alone. Then there’s Drums Rock, which is my absolute favourite virtual reality game of all time. The store is showing that the discount is “in demand” and “selling fast”, so you may need to act quickly in order to avoid missing out. Indeed, the deal won’t be around forever, so click the link below to reserve a PSVR 2 device right now.

There’s actually never been a better time to pick up a PSVR 2, and not just because of the price cut.

Sony recently unveiled a couple of big-budget games for the PlayStation VR successor, including a brand new entry in the Alien franchise.

Developed by the virtual reality experts at Survios, Alien: Rogue Incursion is an upcoming single-player horror game launching on PSVR 2, Meta Quest 3 and Steam VR.

Described as “frightfully immersive”, players will be tasked with surviving terrifying alien encounters in VR. It will be available this holiday season.

Another game coming to PSVR 2 in the coming months in Behemoth, which is a fantasy action game developed by the team behind Walking Dead Saints and Sinners.

However, Sony’s most recent announcement is the real reason why there’s never been a better time to buy a PSVR 2 headset.

Earlier this week, the company announced plans to release an adapter that will make it possible to use your PlayStation VR 2 headset to play Steam VR games.

The adapter will give users access to a boatload of Steam VR games, including Half Life Alyx, Fallout 4 VR and Bonelab.

Unfortunately, however, the new technology doesn’t come cheap. First up you’ll need the actual PlayStation VR 2 PC adapter, which will retail for approximately £49.99.

According to Sony, PSVR 2 owners will also need to purchase a separate “commercially available DisplayPort cable”, specifically one that’s compatible with DisplayPort 1.4. While DisplayPort cables aren’t too expensive to buy, it’s worth buying a decent one if you want the best possible performance.

You’ll also need a PC that meets the minimum requirements needed to run VR games on Sony’s device.

Once you do have all the items at your disposal, setting up is as simple as connecting your PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the PS VR2 PC adapter and the DisplayPort 1.4 cable.

You’ll then be required to download the PlayStation VR2 App and the SteamVR App, which will enable you to set up your PlayStation VR device on your PC. This includes setting up your play area and purchasing games.

As Sony points out, performance may vary depending on your set-up and individual game requirements, so it’s worth thoroughly researching before making a purchase.

It’s also worth noting that some PSVR 2 exclusive features won’t work with Steam VR games, such as headset feedback, eye tracking and adaptive triggers.
