Following the interview, she revealed to 7NEWS Melbourne’s Paul Dowsley she wanted to “kiss” the famous king penguin chick Pesto.

The Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium resident is just nine months old but weighs 22.5kg — more than twice the weight of his parents.

“It was a great morning in here this morning, there were people everywhere when Katy Perry was in,” entertainment reporter Peter Ford revealed on The Morning Show while talking about the star’s appearance in Melbourne.

“In fact one of the things that she said after she came off the Sunrise interview was that the thing she wants to do while she’s in Melbourne is meet Pesto the penguin.

“I don’t know if you’re up with Pesto the penguin but he lives at the aquarium.

“Pesto is the big king-sized penguin who’s become a huge global sensation online — and she’s obviously right up with him,” Ford went on.

“She said I want to kiss him while I’m here in Melbourne.”

Pictures of Pesto – who is 90cm tall – towering over his parents have gone viral online.

The American superstar’s revelation came after she announced she would bring her Lifetimes tour to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth in June, 2025.

The tour is in support of her new album, 143, which signals a reinvention for the pop star.

Appearing live on Sunrise on Wednesday, Perry said: “I am super keen to announce The Lifetimes tour, and I’m rolling out dates first in Australia.

“It’s been a long time, but I feel like I’m totally ready for it. It’s a high energy sing-along with all the songs that everybody knows and more.”

Telstra Plus pre-sale tickets for Perry’s concert tour start on Friday, September 27; Snaffle pre-sale tickets begin on Tuesday, October 1, 9am, local time; and tickets go on sale to the general public on October 4, 10am.

Excitedly speaking about the new tour, Perry said fans loved her hit, 2010 mega-hit Firework — which she said usually gets the biggest response from the crowd.

“Everybody loves it. Doesn’t matter who you are, how young, how mature, everyone is singing along to that song,” she said.

“That’s what I typically end my show with. The celebratory moment of life.”

The superstar will play the MCG for the AFL grand final on Saturday, fronting a sellout crowd of 100,000 people.

The American singer went on to talk about how she still gets butterflies before hitting the stage.

“I usually do a lot of prep (before getting on stage). So I don’t get nerves. I definitely get butterflies. Especially during this era where everything has a bit of butterflies around it. There will definitely be butterflies in the arenas.”
