Kylie Gillies shares heartfelt moment her eldest son returned home on his birthday after living in Europe for 18 months

Kylie Gillies has shared the emotional moment she welcomed home her eldest son, Gus, for his 22nd birthday after he had been living in Germany for the last 18 months.

The Morning Show host, who is mum to Gus and his younger brother, Archie, 19, shared a clip to Instagram at the weekend showing her embracing her eldest at the airport to mark his return.

Coincidentally, It was also Gus’s 22nd birthday.

“He’s home, after 18 months in Europe, Gus is back,” Gillies wrote under the clip.

“Born on AFL Grand Final day in 2002, Gus is able to mark his 22nd birthday with us today. All together again.

“He’s bursting to write the next chapter. His dad and I are just so glad to see his face.

“The happiest of happy birthdays darling Gus. xxx”

Gillies was inundated with well-wishes under the clip.

“How wonderful,” Jess Rowe wrote. “Love it!!! Welcome home Gus!” Sam Mac added.

“Oh, that feeling!! So happy for you xx” Melissa Doyle added.

Gillies has been open with viewers of The Morning Show about Gus’ adventure aboard, when he surprised her with a video call on her birthday in May. Gillies burst into tears.

“Hey mum! Happy birthday! Happy birthday mum! Surprise! It’s 2am. I’m across the world but happy birthday!” Gus said, dialling into the show from Berlin.

Kylie had last visited Gus in January, and the pair took a weekend trip to Berlin.

At the time, the TV presenter shared an adorable selfie with Gus, both of them rugged up for the European winter, writing: “Auf Wiedersehen Berlin. You were wunderbar.

“Forty-eight hour side trip with Gus to this incredible city. Beautiful, historic … cold!”

In May 2022, Kylie told Good Health magazine how much she enjoyed motherhood.

“My weekends and weeknights are full of the boys’ sports events,” she said.

“Being a mum to teens is terrific, but it’s busy.

“It’s a full-time job, coupled with my full-time TV job.”
