(NewsNation) — If you believe your private work messages are confidential, you may want to reconsider. Several major companies reportedly use artificial intelligence to monitor employees’ messages.
A CNBC report reveals companies including Walmart, Delta Air Lines, T-Mobile and Starbucks utilize a tech startup named Aware to scan online communication platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams for keywords indicating employee dissatisfaction. The software also analyzes messages to detect inappropriate or offensive language.
According to Aware, it has analyzed up to 20 billion messages from more than three million employees, CNBC reported.
Some fear the practice invades employee privacy.
However, the trend appears to show no signs of slowing. According to IBM, about 42% of businesses actively use AI.
Congress is seeking to regulate the emerging technology. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies announced a bipartisan task force to explore how the U.S. can lead in AI and how the federal government can protect against potential threats.
