A man was caught with a gun when he was pulled over for impaired driving near Pearson airport, another recent example of how vehicle stops are no longer routine for cops.
Ontario Provincial Police say an officer from their Toronto detachment observed “an erratic vehicle” on Hwy. 409.

“(The) officer stopped the car and observed open liquor,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt wrote in posts on social media. “The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was arrested.”
He said a loaded handgun was subsequently seized from the vehicle.

Three brothers – Marcus Borowski, 25, of Newmarket, Matthew Borowski, 23, of Richmond Hill, and Joshua Borowski, 27, of Richmond Hill – face charges.
On April 1, Durham Regional Police allegedly seized a loaded Uzi sub-machine gun during a vehicle stop in Scugog.
Brock Tate, 32, of Pickering, faces multiple firearms and impaired driving.
York Regional Police stopped two people in a pickup truck in Vaughan on March 24 and allegedly seized a loaded handgun and a conducted energy device.
The driver, Trey Marong, 30, of Laval, Quebec, and his passenger, Alexis Wilson, 24, of Brampton, face charges.
And on Jan. 13, a speeding driver tried to flee from an OPP officer near Pearson, ended up crashing and was nabbed with a loaded handgun.
