Woolworths has introduced a new trolley technology intended to speed up shopping for customers.
The “Scan and Go” trolleys are being trialled at a number of stores across Sydney, but not all shoppers are finding the change convenient.

The trial is rolling out at stores in Windsor, Oran Park, Kellyville, Kellyville Grove, Kellyville North, Lane Cove, The Ponds, Warringah Mall, Schofields Town Centre and North Parramatta.
Local shopper Jenny took the technology for a test-drive at a Woolies in Windsor on Wednesday and said: “It wasn’t as easy as just doing my normal shop.”
A small interactive screen and scanner is fixed to trolleys at the participating stores, and shoppers scan barcodes as they go rather than at the cash register.
The process becomes slightly more complicated in the fresh produce section, where items need to be weighed in the department itself.
Despite similar techniques already being required in proliferating self-serve registers, this is where Jenny ran into some confusion.
“I don’t know where to scan it,” she told 7NEWS in the fresh produce section.
“It took much longer than I thought it would. It was finding the products, and then also scanning and leaning over and just checking it all the time.”
Another customer had a similar opinion, telling 7NEWS: “It infuriates me … I like my human contact.”
But not all customers were opposed to the new technology.
“I’ll try anything if it makes it quicker,” one man told 7NEWS outside the Windsor store.
“It was just so easy to do,” one young woman said after her shop.
Queensland University of Technology food retail expert Gary Mortimer told 7NEWS: “Ultimately, this is about giving shoppers another choice. You can use a staff register, going through the terminals, or scan and go yourself.”
7NEWS understands Coles plans to roll out a similar technology soon.
