Woman killed in head-on crash in Empire Bay, NSW Central Coast

A young woman has died, and another has been seriously injured in a head-on crash on the NSW Central Coast.

Emergency services were called to Empire Bay Road in Empire Bay after two vehicles travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on about 8.30pm on Friday.

One driver, a woman believed to be in her 20s, died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.

A second vehicle left the roadway and was located down an embankment where the driver was trapped for a short time before being released by Fire & Rescue NSW.

She is believed to be in her 30s and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“A crime scene was established and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced,” a NSW police spokesperson said.

Empire Bay Road is closed in both directions and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
