Woman hit in assault on Sydney light rail at Haymarket

A woman has been assaulted in a suspected domestic violence incident at a Sydney light rail stop.

Police say the woman was assaulted by a man about 5.50pm Sunday while waiting at the Chinatown light rail station in Haymarket.

“During the assault the man hit the woman several times in the head before the pair boarded the light rail with a child and left the scene,” police said.

Police believe the incident may have been a case of domestic violence.

Officers wish to speak to a man, believed to be in his 40s, who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with short dark hair that is balding on top.
