Woman and baby rescued following 11-hour siege at Sydney unit

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after he barricaded himself inside a Sydney unit for almost 11-hours with a woman and baby.

NSW Police arrived at the unit on Belvoir St in Surry Hills about 9.30pm on Saturday, after receiving a welfare concern about a woman and baby.

Following an 11-hour siege involving specialist police and negotiations, officers forced entry into the unit just after 8am on Sunday.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital under police guard.

The woman and baby were not injured.

Police are continuing to investigate.
