AUGUSTA, Ga. — Masters leader Bryson DeChambeau gave a shout-out to YouTube and other social media for erasing some misconceptions about him that plagued him early in his career.

“What’s been really nice and helpful for me is doing a lot of content on YouTube, as crazy as it sounds, it’s been really awesome to see how I can affect a lot of people’s lives, junior golfers’ lives, middle-aged men, even, they are coming out shouting: Thanks for the content. Appreciate what you do online,” DeChambeau said after shooting a scorching seven-under 65 on Thursday at Augusta National.

The LIV Golf star has more than a half-million followers on the video platform and his videos routinely are viewed more than a million times.
“Look, I’m just trying to promote the game of golf in the best way I possibly can, YouTube being one of them,” he said. “Whether it’s Instagram, X, or even Snapchat. I mean, it’s crazy, I’ve gotten a crazy amount of love on Snapchat. Getting over like a million views a day on Snapchat and these people coming out of nowhere and Patrons saying, I love your Snapchat. Like really? They are loving it that much? That’s awesome.”

DeChambeau had developed a reputation as something of a quirky loner, seeming to take his game and philosophy’s to near-obsessive levels in a quest for perfection. While it turned some fans and possibly some of his peers off, others have nothing but admiration for his interesting pursuits.
“He has found a way to play golf that’s different and unique from anybody I’ve ever seen play it,” Phil Mickelson said on Thursday. “He believes and knows that it gives him opportunities and advantages, and he’s got the commitment and the self-assurance to not care what anybody else says but to go down this path that he knows is right for him. I think a lot of him and have a lot of respect for him.”
DeChambeau has no plans to stop developing his social media footprint, despite a busy summer ahead with major champions season and LIV tournaments.

“Continuing to grow those platforms in the way we know how is something I’m keen on doing and I’m excited to do for the future. I think that’s where everything is going,” he said. “You look at what MrBeast has done, and there’s a few other super famous people right now, Jynxzi and Sketch, and they are growing their avenues and their aspects, and it’s cool to see the cross-platforming capabilities. Like these individuals coming and playing golf and seeing how much influence they have is really cool. It’s just another avenue.”
The golfer even gave credit to Augusta National for opening its course to Dude Perfect last year, which allowed DeChambeau to shoot a video at the famed course with the influencers.
“We have to thank Augusta National for that and the members for letting us come out here and shoot that video,” he said. “It was quite a fun time, and it got a lot of views and a lot of exposure. Hopefully it was a great thing. I think that’s just the way things are moving.”
If all goes well, DeChambeau hopes to be filming his next YouTube videos dressed in green.
