West Coast royalty Ben Cousins and Nic Naitanui ambush Harley Reid on The Front Bar

Emerging West Coast superstar Harley Reid has had an hilarious encounter with AFL royalty Ben Cousins and Nic Naitanui on Channel 7’s hit show The Front Bar.

Reid is linked to the legends through the No.9, and he was put on the spot by Front Bar funny-man Mick Molloy when asked who was the better player.

Cousins is a six-time All-Australian and Brownlow medallist, so Reid naturally opted for him.

But Naitanui is certainly no slouch, himself a three-time All-Australian, a two-time club champion and a Mark of the Year winner.

The accolades may have kept coming for Naitanui, too, but his career was cut down by injury.

Well, no sooner had Reid said “I have to say Cuzzy”, Naitanui walked through the door, complete with faux outrage.

“A couple of days ago he was calling me POP, the Prince of Perth. Now he’s treating me like crap,” Naitanui said.

Front Bar host Andy Maher said to Reid: “(Naitanui) reshaped the way ruckman played … and you’ve just burned him like that on national television.”

Molloy then turned to Reid and said I’m going to give you a chance to rethink the answer and — with Naitanui breathing down his neck — Reid soon backflipped.

“Yeah, Nic Nat …,” Reid said, as Cousins stormed onto the set.

“That didn’t take long,” Cousins said in a perfect set-up, while giving the young star a hug.

Earlier, Reid had a brush with NBA royalty, catching the attention of former NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony.

Reid took a video call from Anthony with West Coast taking to social media to share the meeting of stars.

Anthony confessed he was impressed with Reid’s first-year highlights and loved the fact the 19-year-old brought out his iconic three-to-the-dome celebration.

“Listen, you can have it over here in Australia,” he said as Reid laughed.

“Anytime you score (a goal), you got that.”

Reid pulled out the celebration that featured tapping three fingers against the side of the temple after multiple goals.

The NBA star also said he was enjoying the beauty of Australia and told Reid he wanted to come and watch him play for the Eagles firsthand.

“Sometime that you’re playing I’m gonna try to catch a match in the future,” Anthony said.

The former New York Knick and Denver Nugget who was named an All-Star 10 times and won the NBA scoring title in 2013 was in Perth last week for Hoopsfest.

Reid took home goal of the year at Monday night’s Brownlow Medal count, capping off an impressive debut season where he was named best first-year player by his peers.
