Victorian learner driver’s bold excuse for speeding 47km/h over the limit on Hume Hwy in NSW

A learner driver who was caught speeding 47km/h over the limit in wet weather claimed, “I don’t recall doing 150” when pulled over by police.

The Victorian driver was travelling south along the Hume Hwy, in the NSW town of Kyeamba last week when police spotted the black BMW hatchback at 157km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Police pulled the vehicle over and questioned the driver about his speed, to which he said he did not remember.

The learner’s fully licensed supervisor in the passenger seat told police he also did not notice as he “might have been dozing” at the time.

The driver underwent drug and alcohol testing and returned a positive result for cocaine and cannabis.

A secondary roadside test also returned a positive result.

“Police are now awaiting the results of forensic analysis in relation to the drug test,” police said.

The driver was fined $1097 for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h as a learner, which also carries five demerit points.

His driving privileges in NSW were immediately withdrawn for three months and he was issued a 24-hour notice of prohibition of driving over the positive drug test.

The driver’s supervisor was also issued with an infringement notice for failing to supervise.
