Urgent call out to find mystery South Australian millionaire: ‘Time is running out’

Officials are urgently hunting a mystery millionaire after warning they have less than two weeks left to claim their winnings.

The call-out is to the South Australian resident or visitor who has one of the winning $1 million Monday and Wednesday X Lotto tickets drawn on Wednesday 27 September 2023.

The ticket was bought by an unregistered player at a service station in Mawson Lakes almost a year ago and under SA law, lottery winnings must be collected within one year of the draw date — and that deadline is coming up fast.

“We’re urging all players who had a ticket in the draw to check their ticket as soon as possible,” The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre said.

“Keep an eye out for your ticket, it could be on the fridge, in the glove box or on your bedside table.”

Officials say the mystery $1 million winner may be completely unaware that they’ve been sitting on the “life-changing” ticket for almost 12 months.

Because the entry was unregistered, officials have had no way to contact the winner and must wait for them to come forward to claim their prize.

“We’re looking forward to speaking to this mystery winner, we can’t wait to see what they do with their prize,” McIntyre said.

Previous winners have used their winnings to buy new houses, travel the world or have shared their winnings with friends and family, according to officials.

The mystery winner must collect their winnings by September 27.

Once 12 months has passed, the unclaimed money is forfeited to the Lotteries Commission of South Australia, which has a prize claim process and associated administration costs.
