A large quantity of a “fluorescent green liquid” is currently spilling into Sydney Harbour, with officials saying it is concerning but not hazardous.
The liquid was first seen entering the water at Hipwood St in Kirribilli just before 3pm on Wednesday.
Firefighters who specialise in hazardous materials were sent “to investigate this large spill or leakage of a fluorescent green substance”, Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said.

They are working with the Port Authority and local council.
“They’re unsure where this substance is coming from but it is a large quantity,” Dewberry said.
“And it is bright green.”
Authorities believe it is a “neutral substance” that is not hazardous.
“Our investigations will continue but it is still a concern that we have this product going into the harbour,” Dewberry said.
Authorities will continue to investigate where the substance is coming from, clean up the area and/or declare it safe.
