Two teens flung from ute tray during serious crash in NSW Northern Tablelands, learner driver charged

A teenage girl was charged on Monday over a ute crash which caused her and her two young friends to be flung from the vehicle in the state’s Northern Tablelands.

The learner driver, 16, was allegedly behind the wheel, with her two 16-year-old passengers riding on the rear tray, when the car left the road and rolled.

All three occupants were seriously injured in the single-vehicle crash on Bergen Rd, Walcha, on November 15, 2023.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the trio at the scene before transporting them to Armidale Hospital.

The alleged driver was given a court attendance notice at Armidale Police Station at 4.50pm on Monday.

“She was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm — drive manner dangerous, negligent driving, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened, and drive with passenger in/on part of vehicle not permitted,” NSW Police said.

The girl is set to appear at Armidale Local Court on March 7, 2024.
