She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition after 1.15am on Sunday.

NSW Police said friends of the woman rushed to the bridge when they realised the SUV was no longer following their car.

They found the crash scene and managed to help the woman out of the car, but two others could not be rescued.

“The police operation will continue throughout the morning and Morialta Road remains closed in both directions,” NSW Police.
