Trump says 2024 election will be ‘single most important day in history of our country’
Judge Lewis Kaplan has rejected an attempt by Donald Trump to delay the enforcement of the $83.3m judgment in the defamation case brought against him by E Jean Carroll.
In an order published on Thursday afternoon, the judge said the former president’s “current situation is a result of his own dilatory actions” and he had been given plenty of time to organise his finances with the knowledge that he might need a bond.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump has challenged President Joe Biden to a debate, despite having previously refused to take part in televised Republican Party face-offs against his GOP challengers, insisting there was no advantage in it for him as the front-runner.
“It is important, for the Good of our Country, that Joe Biden and I Debate Issues that are so vital to America, and the American People,” the Republican nominee-presumptive wrote on Truth Social after his last remaining rival, Nikki Haley, dropped out of the race, leaving the two men to battle it out for her supporters and, ultimately, November’s presidential election.
In other news, the Supreme Court plans to hear arguments on Mr Trump’s “presidential immunity” defence against prosecution on 25 April.

Giuliani creditors want evidence of Trump’s $2m arrangement with his ex-lawyer
Attorneys for the Committee of Unsecured Creditors — a group that represents those who Mr Giuliani either owes or soon could — filed a motion in bankruptcy court on Thursday evening requesting discovery into Mr Giuliani’s personal and business finances.
The Independent reported previously that the creditors are “discussing” forcing Mr Giuliani to sue Mr Trump to retrieve more cash that could soon belong to them. If any documentation is obtained, this could fuel pursuing any litigation against the former president.

DJT: THEY ARE REALLY LATE, VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO OUR COUNTRY!

Thankfully, we won’t have to be looking at RINO Mitt Romney much longer!
Joe Manchin had it made, was one of the most popular politicians in America, but then he, as he usually does, blew it. He approved the Inflation Reduction Act, and he was toast – Not recoverable!
Crooked Joe is making his way to the Chamber. Very disrespectful to some. Not good!!!

DJT: Maxine Waters, very nice woman, even though she’s constantly saying she wants to beat up or kill people on the opposite side of the aisle. lf I ever said that, they would call me an Insurrectionist, and all hell would break out!

DJT: There is nothing he can say tonight that can absolve him from letting 15 million people into our Country illegally. He’ll probably blame me, but I had the Safest Border in the History of our Country, so that won’t go very far!

DJT: The President is very substantially late. Not a good start, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure he had very important things to do, but he is just now getting into the car. They will have to drive very, very quickly, you just don’t want to be late to the State of the Union. They will need Mario Andretti to be at the wheel of the Limo.

Full story: Trump loses attempt to delay $84m verdict in E Jean Carroll case
Earlier this week, Mr Trump’s attorneys Alina Habba and John Sauer asked US District Judge Lewis Kaplan to extend a pause of the judgment, which was set to expire on Monday, putting the former president in a financial hole that “threatens to impose irreparable injury in the form of substantial costs” he might not be able to recover, his attorneys argued.
Mr Trump would be required to pay a cash bond of roughly 110 per cent of the judgment to appeal the ruling.
On Thursday, the judge said Mr Trump’s “current situation is a result of his own dilatory actions.”
