Police said they are trying to rule out whether or not the driver suffered a medical episode, a spokesperson said.
No children were at the school, believed to be St Joseph’s Primary School.
“Thankfully, it is a weekend,” the spokesperson said.
There are reports of up to a dozen cars being struck as the truck careened through the intersection, with paramedics treating four patients, which include the male truck driver.
A woman in her 20s, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 70s were all taken to Liverpool Hospital in unknown conditions.
