Truck collision on M1 motorway at Morisset causes heavy traffic, motorists warned to expect delays

Motorists have been warned to allow for extra travel time on Thursday morning following a collision between two trucks on a major motorway near Lake Macquarie in NSW.

A semi-trailer and a truck collided on the M1, about 3km south of Mandalong Rd in Morisset, just before 10.15pm on Wednesday.

The impact of the crash caused the truck to roll into nearby bushland and resulted in the semi-trailer busting into flames.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 30-year-old man, was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing, while the 55-year-old male truck drive wasn’t injured.

Multiple NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW units attended the scene.

“Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing,” police said.

All northbound lanes of the M1 Pacific were closed between Sparks Rd at Warnervale and Mandalong Rd however reopened about 6.30am on Thursday.

According to Transport NSW “heavy traffic” remains and drivers have been urged to allow for extra travel time as they approach Warnervale, as well as on Wyee Rd.
