On Thursday, the Cleveland Cavaliers player shared an emotional tribute to Kardashian in a series of Instagram Story posts in honor of the reality TV star’s 40th birthday on June 27.
He celebrated her as the “best mom” in one post, and he called her the “most incredible human being” in another. His third post featured a photo that showed the former couple with their 6-year-old daughter, True, and Kardashian’s niece, Dream, 7.
“You are my best friend,” he wrote in a text overlay of the post. The exes also share son Tatum, who is almost 2.
Thompson and Kardashian’s past on-and-off relationship has made headlines over the years due to the NBA player’s multiple cheating scandals.
In 2022, he publicly acknowledged that he fathered a child with model Maralee Nichols while he was still in a relationship with Kardashian.
His child with Nichols, a boy named Theo, was born in December 2021. Thompson also shares a 7-year-old son, Prince, with his ex Jordan Craig.
Kardashian addressed the status of her relationship with Thompson in the premiere episode of the fifth season of her family’s Hulu reality TV series, “The Kardashians.”
The Good American co-founder said in a confessional interview during the episode that the past decade of her life had been “heavy” and that she anticipated feeling “a relief” after Thompson’s move to Cleveland. (He returned to play with the Cavaliers after the team signed him last year.)
“I don’t care who it is, I need space,” she says to the camera.
Thompson, on the other hand, was filmed in one scene being flirty with Kardashian, joking that the former couple should build a “tunnel” or “overpass” to connect both of their Los Angeles homes so they can live as “one big happy family.”
“Sometimes I hate how much I have to think, and be on guard, to not do anything that might ever give a glimmer that there’s hope,” Kardashian later says in a confessional, referring to her relationship with Thompson.
