Tributes to Scots singer Joe Egan of Stealers Wheel after death aged 77

Joe Egan, who co-founded Scottish folk band Stealers Wheel, has died aged 77.

The singer-songwriter from Paisley, who played in the band alongside musician Gerry Rafferty to produce hits such as Stuck in the Middle With You passed away on Saturday.

Rafferty, also from Paisley, who had hits such as Baker Street, died in January 2011 aged 63.

A post from Rafferty’s official Facebook page, run by a family member, confirmed the death of Egan on Sunday.

A tribute read: “Very sad news that the other half of Stealers Wheel, Joe Egan, passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon with his nearest and dearest around him.

“I will always remember him as a sweet and gentle soul. May he rest in peace.”
