A man from Newcastle who died in a freak accident while working on his car has been remembered as a loving father and all round “great bloke”.
Johnathan O’Neill, 49, was underneath his car, which was parked in the driveway of his home in Lambton, when it came off its ramps and landed on top of him on July 13.
Emergency services managed to get the father-of-two out from under the car, and he was treated by paramedics, however he died of his injuries.

O’Neill worked as a steel fixer for more than 20 years, but a few years ago was diagnosed as legally blind and was living on a disability pension.
Luc Holmes, O’Neill’s nephew, told 7NEWS.com.au one of his uncle’s favourite hobbies was working on the different vehicles he owned in his spare time.
He described O’Neill as a loving father, brother, uncle and son who was also a dedicated owner to his dog Bronco.
“Johnathan was loved and cared for by many people,” Holmes said.
“He was a great bloke who loved helping others no matter the situation.
“Our family is definitely struggling with this sudden and traumatic loss.”
Holmes has set up a fundraiser to help with funeral costs and any ongoing expenses.
He said his family were grateful for all the support and donations they had received so far.
“We appreciate all the kindness and generosity of the community and we want everyone to know that their support and condolences do not go unseen,” he said.
Almost $3500 has been raised so far.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding O’Neill’s death.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
