Tributes for Johnathan O’Neill, 49, killed in freak accident at home in Newcastle suburb of Lambton

A man from Newcastle who died in a freak accident while working on his car has been remembered as a loving father and all round “great bloke”.

Johnathan O’Neill, 49, was underneath his car, which was parked in the driveway of his home in Lambton, when it came off its ramps and landed on top of him on July 13.

Emergency services managed to get the father-of-two out from under the car, and he was treated by paramedics, however he died of his injuries.

O’Neill worked as a steel fixer for more than 20 years, but a few years ago was diagnosed as legally blind and was living on a disability pension.

Luc Holmes, O’Neill’s nephew, told 7NEWS.com.au one of his uncle’s favourite hobbies was working on the different vehicles he owned in his spare time.
