Travis Kelce shakes off Taylor Swift being booed by Patriots fans

Travis Kelce is amazed at how easily Taylor Swift shook off the boos she heard raining down from “a few Brads and Chads” on Sunday as she cheered on his Kansas City Chiefs.

On his New Heights podcast this week, the Chiefs tight end spoke about how his girlfriend gamely laughed off unruly New England Patriots fans after she was seen sporting a Kansas City sweatshirt and a toque with her two-time Super Bowl winning boyfriend’s jersey number on it.

“They showed Taylor at the game, and I mean, you don’t see an entire home team fan base go insane for somebody wearing the opposite team’s colours,” Kelce said in conversation with his brother Jason on the podcast. “It just shows you how amazing that girl is. They went absolutely insane when they showed her on the screen.”

Kelce acknowledged that there were a few haters in the crowd, but told his brother the fans were solidly in Swift’s corner.

“There might’ve been a few Brads and Chads that were booing, but for the most part everybody was f***ing screaming their tail off,” Kelce said.

“I was trying to keep it cool. I was like, don’t show your cards, don’t show your cards,” he continued. “It was fun. Shoutout to the Patriots, New England. She’s on record saying that stadium is one of the funnest that she’s played at. So for them to show her is showing her some love. Shoutout to the Patriots for doing that.”

During the game, which the Patriots lost 27-17, the team posted an endorsement from Swift on the Jumbotron as they showed her.

“Gillette Stadium is the most joyful place on Earth’ — Taylor Swift,” the message read.

But as a chorus of boos rained down, Swift, who was watching the game with her dad Scott and Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany, anticipated the harsh reception as she was captured grinning on camera saying, “I knew it was coming.”

In an interview with TIME earlier this month after the magazine declared her its Person of the Year, Swift maintained that she is unaware when she is being shown on TV.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” she said.

She added that she’s “just there to support Travis” and has found herself a newfound fan of football.

“I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads … Football is awesome, it turns out … I’ve been missing out my whole life,” she joked.

During the game, Swift also caused a stir on social media when her dad, Scott, gave slices of her birthday cake to fans. She also endeared herself further after she was seen handing out fistfuls of cash to tip employees at the venue.

But at one point during Sunday’s game, Swift grew animated when Patriots cornerback Myles Bryant shoved Kelce on a missed catch.

Afterwards, Bryant told PEOPLE he was impressed by her enthusiasm.

“It’s a high-stakes game. People get real into it, so it’s cool,” he said. “It’s cool she’s into it.”

Meanwhile, the couple, who began dating earlier this year after Kelce declared his interest in meeting the singer on his podcast, will be spending the holidays together in Kansas City with the Chiefs set to play on both Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

“She’ll for sure be at the games,” an insider tells Page Six.
