Tragic end to search for missing boatie as body found in water at Haywards Beach, Bermagui

The search for a man who was identified as missing when his empty boat washed ashore on the NSW South Coast last week has ended.

The 60-year-old Victorian man’s body was found in the water at the same beach nearly a week later.

His boat was first discovered empty when it washed ashore Haywards Beach, also known as Camel Rock Surf Beach, near Tilba Rd, Bermagui about 3.15pm last Tuesday.

Two days later, when his body could not be located, the search was called off.

Then, on Monday, a grim discovery was made in the water at Haywards Beach — a body believed to be that of the 60-year-old was found at 5.30pm.

“He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be that of the missing man,” NSW Police said on Tuesday.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
