Tragedy as person dies in fall at Minnehaha Falls in Katoomba, NSW

A person has died in a fall at a popular waterfall in the Blue Mountains in NSW.

The victim, a male, is understood to have been with a group at Minnehaha Falls in Katoomba when the incident occurred about 1.30pm on Monday.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command, Police Rescue and NSW paramedics found the victim with serious injuries.

He could not be saved and died at the scene, authorities confirmed.

An ambulance helicopter was called out initially but the request was cancelled when the person died at the scene.

The victim is yet to be formally identified.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Minnehaha Falls, about 100km east of Sydney, has been labelled a “must-visit” for tourists thanks to its “spectacular views” and “impressive” swimming hole.

The spot is accessed by a walking track which is about 20 minutes from the carpark.

Parking bays are at a premium during the summer months.
