Toronto man, 45, accused of forcible confinement, robbery

A 45-year-old Toronto man faces a slew of charges including forcible confinement after allegedly robbing and assaulting the same victim on separate occasions in the same Scarborough residence.

Toronto Police responded on Sunday at about 12:05 a.m. to a call for a sexual assault in the Kennedy Rd.-Sheppard Ave. E. area.

Police alleged that on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, the victim met the accused on a social media platform and the accused went to the victim’s residence and produced an undisclosed weapon and bound the victim’s hands before demanding money and robbing her. He then fled.

A few weeks later, on Wednesday, Dec. 20, police said the accused entered the same victim’s home and, once inside, refused to leave while demanding money from the victim.

The accused then fled.

On Tuesday, members of the sex crimes unit executed a search warrant in the Bloor St. W.-Spadina Rd. area and charged Benny Ning Zhang with robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, threaten death, extortion, unlawfully in a dwelling, criminal harassment, and possession of a Schedule I substance.

Police believe there may be additional victims.
