LILLEY: Trudeau government spent $6.8 million on Calgary COVID hotel for just 10 people

So, a family of four can spend $6,000, give or take, for a week-long all-inclusive holiday in a tropical, beachy destination. For the Trudeau government, that’s the cost of a London hotel room — for one night.

But if that’s wasn’t mind-boggling enough, Brian Lilley reported that between April 1 and Oct. 30 last year, the Trudeau government spent $6.8 million booking a single Calgary hotel (the Calgary Airport Westin, to be precise) to accommodate just 10 people for COVID quarantine.

That’s an average of $680,000 per person — an indefensible, shocking waste of taxpayer money at a time when Canada doesn’t have that kind of money to spend. That sound you heard is all of us shaking our heads muttering “WTAF” in unison.

LILLEY: Ovechkin shouldn’t be welcomed into Canada, let’s hope Toronto shuns him

Alex Ovechkin’s hockey skills are amazing but his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin is the opposite.

In fact, Lilley calls the athlete’s love for the genocidal dictator “disgusting.”

If it were only about the game of hockey, then sure, celebrate Ovechkin. But Lilley argued that the ardent supporter of monster Putin should be denied entry into Canada. Or at the very least, he should be booed every time he touches the puck.

Priscilla Presley files objection to Lisa Marie Presley’s will

Priscilla Presley is contesting the “authenticity and validity” of daughter Lisa Marie Presley’s will and questioned whether the signature on the document was actually her Lisa Marie’s.

Priscilla challenged the amendment that names Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, and her late brother, Benjamin, as co-trustees, claiming she and her late daughter’s former business manager Barry Siegel had been appointed co-trustees on Jan. 29, 1993. This is so going to get messy.

WARMINGTON: Who knew Don Cherry would stick up for Alex Ovechkin?

If Lilley was hoping Don Cherry would back him up on his opinion on Ovechkin, he was sorely disappointed – because Grapes actually stuck up for the Russian hockey player.

According to Joe Warmington, Cherry said the hockey star “has nothing to do with the war in Ukraine” and is “not involved in it,” and people should separate politics from the game.

But many argued that supporting Putin and his army is enough to warrant more than a little side-eye.

SIMMONS SUNDAY: Maple Leafs trade rumours, where fantasy and reality collide

There’s a lot going on as far as who the Maple Leafs will be trading – and getting – on or before NHL’s trade deadline next month.

And although things have become a bit more wishful thinking than reality, Steve Simmons points out that while the Leafs want to upgrade their roster, general manager Kyle Dubas knows he has a team that can do some damage in the playoffs and wants to give them every opportunity to do so.
