Tip leads to arrest of man wanted for Richmond Hill axe attack

A man accused of an axe attack in Richmond Hill is in custody after cops received a tip from a concerned citizen.

York Regional Police say a man was at a residence on Highland Park Blvd., near Yonge St. and Steeles Ave. E., when he had an altercation with another man and assaulted him with an axe around 7 p.m. on Dec. 13.

On Tuesday evening, cops received a call from a member of the public who saw the suspect in the area of Major Mackenzie Dr. E. and Old Markham Rd. and recognized him from recent media coverage.

Officers promptly responded and took the suspect into custody, police said.

Dykes is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break-and-enter with intent, robbery, and four counts of breach of probation.
